The University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), Kanpur, India, founded in 1996, is an engineering and technology institute located in Kanpur, India.
UIET Kanpur is an autonomous institute of the Kanpur University (officially known as CSJM University, with its premises within the university campus. With an initial strength of 240 students, it now has 1,700 students on its rolls in the six disciplines of Engineering and other career-oriented programs like MCA, BCA, M.Sc. (Electronics), M.Sc. (Bioinformatics) and Advanced PG Diploma in Bioinformatics. It is a self-financed institute.[1]

The UIET is a brainchild of its founder Prof. S.S. Katiyar, the former Vice Chancellor of Kanpur University.
It is set amidst the university campus that has an area of about 265 acres. It is one of the constituent institutes of the university. It was founded in 1996 with an initial strength of 240 students, and now more than 1700 students on its rolls in all the six disciplines of engineering and other career-oriented programs like MCA, BCA, M.Sc. (Electronics), M.Sc. (Bioinformatics) and Advanced PG Diploma in Bioinformatics. It is a self-financed institute dedicated to advancing knowledge and educating students in Engineering and Technology as well as Sciences.

The institute has separate buildings, lecture halls, laboratories and tutorial rooms for each department. The institute holds regular seminars in areas like engineering, bioinformatics, science and personality development programmes. The Department of Bioinformatics is widely involved in research and development activities.
Admission is provided once annually, through a state level examination conducted by the state technical university UPTU each testing the candidate in aspects of physics, chemistry and mathematics. The candidates also apply for UIET by filling a separate entrance exam conducted by the college.
The institute has a collection of engineering, science and technology books in the central library of the university, and has a separate section for UIET. The entire library collection is digitally compiled.
The computer science and engineering department has specialized labs like the microprocessor lab.
There is an auditorium that server as a centre for academic, extra-curricular and cultural activities. The students are either residents of the university hostels, or live in the city.
The lecture hall complex is the centre for class room lectures, and seminars. It is a common set up shared by all the constituent sub-departments of the institute. The building has separate lecture halls, and tutorial rooms.
Each department has its head, and appointed faculty members. The faculty members deliver class lectures, and serve as guides for student projects.
Guest faculty and members of the academic community visit UIET Kanpur to deliver lectures and courses.
The institute holds extracurricular events such as Spandan (the annual cultural festival held within the institute premises) and Techmart (the annual technical festival).
A welcome event for the newcomers into the institute and a convocation / farewell ceremony for the students who are in their final year and are about to graduate, is held annually. The welcome for new students is planned by their immediate seniors, and the convocation ceremony is organized by the immediate junior batch of students.
